This image was painted in 2013 by artist Tommy Canning from Scotland.

He is quoted as saying about the image…

“Some years ago I painted one of my earliest “religious” works of the Divine Mercy image. I was never happy with the final product. I suppose every artist is never truly satisfied with the finished work of art. I would remind myself of Jesus’ words to Faustina when He said, “Not in the beauty of the colour, nor of the brush, lies the greatness of this image, but in My grace” (Diary, 313).

He said this as she wept bitterly, complaining to the Lord of her sadness at the poor likeness to His beauty that the artist Eugeniusz Kazimirowski had captured in his painting of the original image of Divine Mercy, that to her mind failed miserably.

So I was in good company, I thought. Since my first efforts, it was always my intention to re-visit it and paint another version that would be closer to my desired vision; however, it was many years before that would happen. Over the years as I matured and developed as an artist, I gradually began to form in my head the image that I thought perhaps would be a marked improvement on the first attempt.” Tommy Canning
